Ambulatory Surgery Center
CMO houses a full-service orthopaedic Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Because of advances in medical techniques and technology, many surgical procedures can now be done on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can go home the same day as their operation.
Our ASC can be far less intimidating than a large hospital and, because patients are up and moving as soon as possible, they are already on the road to recovery when they leave. In addition, ambulatory surgery is generally less costly.
Why choose CMO for outpatient surgery?
CMO is one of the largest outpatient orthopaedic facilities in New England, and the only licensed independent surgical center in the Lewiston/Auburn area. We continually invest in the most advanced technology and our surgeons stay current with and specialize in using best-in-class techniques. We perform about 2,000 outpatient surgeries a year and are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) for meeting nationally recognized standards.
Our operating areas are state-of-the-art, and fully equipped for outpatient surgical procedures. Our facility is staffed with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians, all of whom specialize in orthopaedic care. Following is a list of the surgeries we commonly perform at CMO.
- Arthroscopic hand, ankle, foot, knee, shoulder, and hip surgery
- Fracture surgery (not requiring a hospital stay)
- Carpal Tunnel Release
- ACL Reconstruction
- Rotator cuff repair
What to expect if you are having outpatient surgery at CMO
Surgeries are scheduled five days a week, between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Once surgery has been recommended and scheduled here at CMO, we will also schedule an intake session. We encourage the family member or friend who will bring you to your surgical appointment and take you home again, to come to that intake session. We will explain exactly what to expect and answer any questions you may have. We will also give you a Patient Welcome Kit with the things you need to know about your specific procedure, your care team, what to do in the days prior to your surgery, and how to help yourself heal after you go home.
Our patients can always expect warm attention from our caregivers, the very best in surgical procedures, comfortable surroundings, and fully detailed information about what your surgery day will be like, how you will feel, how to manage any pain, and how to return to everyday activities as soon as possible.
