Total Joint Replacement Program

The Central Maine Orthopaedics Total Joint Replacement Program is a well established regional resource for arthritis surgery.

Dr Wayne Moody, the program director, is a national leader in the area of minimally invasive hip and knee total joint replacement surgery. He has contributed to the advancement of the design of both primary and revision hip and knee replacement systems and surgical techniques. Physicians from other parts of the United States, as well as surgeons from abroad, have come to Maine to observe his surgeries.

Dr. Jeffrey Bush graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and has completed a fellowship in hip and knee reconstruction at Duke University. He also has a Master's degree in engineering from the University of Virginia. He has recently published medical journal articles on hip and knee replacement. He operates at Central Maine Medical Center and the St Mary's Center for Joint Replacement.

In addition to hip and knee replacement, our surgeons have training in hip resurfacing, partial knee replacement, computer assisted surgery, arthroscopic surgery, trauma, and general orthopaedics. They are currently active in an FDA study to evaluate a new 'mobile bearing' total knee prosthesis that could increase the longevity of knee replacements. They are also developing new pain management and rehab protocols designed to decrease pain, speed up recovery, and give patients a quicker return to their normal lives.

In 2007 St Mary's Regional Medical Center, under the direction of Wayne Moody, M.D., opened the St Mary's Center for Joint Replacement, the state's only hospital unit dedicated to joint replacement. The decision to undergo a total joint replacement is the decision to improve your quality of life. If you are suffering from hip or knee pain, see what we can do to give you your life back.
