Dr. Paul Cain is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who joined Central Maine Orthopaedics in 1987. Dr Cain has various areas of specialty, including sports medicine, knee and shoulder arthroscopy and knee ligament reconstruction. He is on the Medical Staff of Central Maine Medical Center, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center and the courtesy staff at Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital. He performs surgery at the Central Maine Orthopaedics Ambulatory Surgery Center, Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. Dr Cain is also available for consultation at the CMO Orthopaedic Clinic at Rumford Hospital.
Since the inception of the Sports Medicine program at Central Maine Orthopaedics in 1987, Dr. Cain has grown it into a comprehensive program, including preventative programs, community educational seminars, game coverage and team involvement with local area high schools. He serves as the team physician for Bates College and the Lewiston Maineiacs Junior Hockey League team.
After obtaining an undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, Dr. Cain graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and a general surgery residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Dr. Cain is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (member of the Council of Delegates 2000-2007), the Maine Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (President 2000-2002), the American Medical Association, the Maine Medical Association and the Androscoggin County Medical Society (President 1991-1992)
Dr. Cain is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
An active member of the community, Dr. Cain has coached soccer, served on the Board of Directors for Soccer Maine, has been a member of the Lewiston-Auburn Chamber of Commerce and member of the Thompson Lake Environmental Association.
