Michael H. Cox, Ph.D., FACSM - Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine

Dr. Michael Cox has been the Chief Executive Officer for Central Maine Orthopaedics (CMO) since 2008. He has an extensive background in primary care, orthopaedics sports medicine, cardiopulmonary physiology, community health, preventive medicine, ambulatory care, and applied physiology.

A driving philosophy of the CMO surgeons has been to ensure that the Central Maine community has local access to the same standard of care available in major metropolitan areas in North America. Surgeons at CMO graduated from the finest medical schools and residency programs and are board-certified and fellowship-trained in a subspecialty of orthopaedics. Their services include hip and knee replacement, knee and shoulder surgery, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery, arthroscopic surgery, and sports medicine. Academically, Dr. Cox has more than 30 years’ experience in teaching, medicine, research, and healthcare management. He has published more than 80 manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts. In addition, Dr. Cox has served as an ad hoc reviewer for several major scientific journals and is a nationally known speaker, teacher, and seminar leader in human performance, cardiovascular disease, sports medicine, wellness, and occupational health.
